Is good to Bee-Kind!
A buzzworthy update about the organic beekeeping program in Monferrato, Italy
Bees: guardians of biodiversity and ecosystems.
Over 70 of the 100 crop species that provide 90 per cent of the world’s food, are pollinated by bees. Bees also play a significant role in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Acting as pollinators, bees promote biodiversity (Goal 15) and fight hunger (Goal 2). They provide decent jobs (Goal 8) in agriculture and other sectors, advancing Goal 1, no poverty.
An essential part of ES-KO’s mission is to promote sustainable local projects for a better environment. As such, we are proud to announce that ES-KO is now sponsoring an organic beekeeping program through the White Tail Organic Farm in Monferrato-Italy. White Tail Organic Farm is a pesticide-free organic farm using non-invasive farming techniques. Honey plants have been planted between the rows of hazel trees. Additionally an organic vegetable garden will be produced in the spring, creating a bee-friendly environment. In addition, a rich calendar of events and educational days, sponsored by ES-KO, will raise awareness of bees and their role in the environment.
Our initiative
Since the start of our sponsorship in April 2023, White Tail Organic Farm has made remarkable strides. The farm’s pesticide-free, organic ethos remains unwavering, and non-invasive farming techniques continue to be the cornerstone of their operations. Notably, 10 beehives were established. During the spring and summer months, bees diligently collected nectar, filling these hives with the golden essence of nature.
As the seasons shifted, the bees stored their bounty within the honeycomb frames. Last week, the surplus honey, not intended for bees’ personal use, was carefully extracted. This honey was then transported to a certified organic laboratory near Torino, Italy. According to the beekeeper, approximately a hundred kilograms of honey were produced, in two delightful varieties: acacia honey and wildflower honey. The honey’s journey from hive to table ensures its quality. It is now in the capable hands of a certified organic laboratory, where its purity and excellence will be further validated.
Like a fine wine, this honey must now undergo a period of rest and maturation for approximately 20 to 30 days, allowing its flavors to develop and harmonize.
